Automotive

One of the major challenges of the automotive market is the reduction of CO2 emission. This environmental challenge can be largely overcome by a weight saving. A saving of 30kg per vehicle actually provides a reduction of 3.5g of CO2 emission per km.

The use of carbon fibers reinforced composite parts should significantly contribute to lightweight the body-in-white of a car structure. The main expectation is to obtain a low cost carbon fiber with medium mechanical performance between PAN-based carbon fiber and glass fiber.

RENAULT will provide a composite part demonstrator (leg B, top rail or partial floor) using renewable source nanostructured carbon fibers developed within CARBOPREC project.
